Q & A

What drew you to aviation?: Growing up in Alaska and being around it.

How long have you been involved in aviation education?: Became a flight instructor when I was 20 and have kept my credentials current for the past 31 years.

What's your favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: Participating in the progression of the student

What's your least favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: Paperwork

Do you have a memorable aviation experience you'd like to share?: That's a tough one, so many.

Why did you join SAFE?: Because I believe we've needed something like this. And to participate in it's insurance and training aid discounts.

What would you like to see change in aviation?: More accountability by both instructors and pilots where we ensure the subject is taught and mastered to a safe level. I've seen too many people make it up the ladder that really should have never progressed without knowing more or decently grasping some basic concepts.

Any suggestions on how the above might be accomplished?: Strengthen the PTS standards and don't allow a weakening of them no matter how bad the pilot shortage becomes. Upset, spin and even aerobatics should be mandatory.

Who are your role models in aviation?: Several of my previous instructors and fellow pilots I've flown with over the years who hold an ideal standard and approach to safety and knowledge of this amazing thing we do.

Anything else you'd like to add?: Hello to all. I'm glad to be here.
