Q & A

What drew you to aviation?: I had many relatives who were involved in aviation in one way or another. From a very young age I was riding in the back as a non revenue passenger. In high school I realized that aviation and being the pilot were what I wanted to do.

How long have you been involved in aviation education?: Have been a certificated airman for over 20 years.

What’s your favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: I enjoy teaching experienced pilots to be better pilots. Enjoy developing scenarios to challenge pilots to go beyond the usual.

What’s your least favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: Having to tell a prospective student or pilot they aren’t ready.

Do you have a memorable aviation experience you’d like to share?: I took my first long cross country with my father after earning my private pilot certificate. It was a memorable experience across the prairies of Texas. We went to New Mexico. Since my father passed away, I reminisce back to those days and the good times. I often fly over Carlsbad, NM albeit 7 times higher and 4 times faster and look back on those days and relive the experience that it happened to me.

Why did you join SAFE?: Found SAFE to be a group of like minded instructors who are involved with aviation instruction. The name says it all.

Who are your role models in aviation?: Col Bud Anderson
