Q & A

What drew you to aviation?: That first intro flight got me! Aviation has always been a passion and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I am just returning to GA and loving my new adventures.

How long have you been involved in aviation education?: I have been in instructor positions almost my whole career. I was an instructor in the military, an instructor in the Airlines and am working on my instructor ratings in the GA world now.

What's your favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: Making the light bulb go from dim to bright! That aha moment when someone just "gets it" from something you said or did. I get a lot of personal satisfaction from that.

What's your least favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: Probably dealing with someone that is not prepared.

Why did you join SAFE?: Although I have never been an "academic educator", I thought this might provide me with some helpful ideas on progressing in my GA instructor role. And of course, the SAFE part is always appealing.

What would you like to see change in aviation?: Although probably unrealistic, it is getting prohibitively expensive to get into aviation. Possibly figuring out some alternatives to the great expenses incurred for those that might want to puruse aviation.

Who are your role models in aviation?: I dont have one role model per se, but my role model is a type. A type of person that exhibits professionalism, enthusiasm, a total grasp of safety and most important enjoys and shares the enjoyment.
