Q & A
What drew you to aviation?: Took a short helicopter flight when I was about 7 and was hooked. The freedom, beauty, always honing skills, and constant learning keeps my attention.
How long have you been involved in aviation education?: Achieved CFI 2003
What's your favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: Showing others the beauty, possibilities & opportunities that flight provides. Seminars on flying outside one's usual area.
What's your least favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: Teaching the drier technical aspects of flying. Watching someone no longer have an interest in learning to fly.
Do you have a memorable aviation experience you'd like to share?: Taking a very scared boy on a Young Eagle flight. After the flight, I overheard him say that it was great and he could continue with his dream of being a military pilot.
Why did you join SAFE?: I respect many of the people who brought SAFE into being. And as a bonus, SAFE has many resources and benefits to offer.
What would you like to see change in aviation?: The heavy regulation over flying. And for the driver license medicals for third class to pass into law.
Any suggestions on how the above might be accomplished?: More lobbying. Having news media that report honestly and not for the drama. Having more aviation supporters within Congress.
Any accomplishments in, or noteworthy contributions to aviation and/or aviation education you'd like to mention?: I have flown to Alaska several times and flown in Australia, England, France and Cuba. I enjoy giving presentations which combine instruction, information, drama, and suspense into a story with beautiful pictures.
Who are your role models in aviation?: Every other pilot who is out there flying
Anything else you'd like to add?: I greatly appreciate the tireless work of all those who make SAFE and its resources and benefits available to us! Thank you!
