Q & A

What drew you to aviation?: I have always had a natural interest in aviation.

How long have you been involved in aviation education?: <1 year

What's your favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: Sharing ideas and learning new techniques to ensure safe and fun airplane flight.

What's your least favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: The feeling of not doing enough to arm pilots with the necessary information and experience.

Why did you join SAFE?: Organizing people with common goals and interests is important to me. I want to learn from those with more experience.

What would you like to see change in aviation?: A shift from rote learning to experiential training.

Any suggestions on how the above might be accomplished?: A reinvention of flight training curriculum, especially at Part 141 flight training schools. Slowing the process down would allow students and future educators to spend more time learning and applying the material. Having less focus on learning to the ACS/PTS-specific maneuvers and more on applicable, safe piloting skills would go a long way.

Who are your role models in aviation?: My colleagues at my flying club bring an extensive amount of experience and I try to learn as much from them as possible.
