Q & A

What drew you to aviation?: I started flying in 1960 when I joined the US Navy and have enjoyed it ever since. After leaving the Navy went to work for Lockheed Aircraft flying the same airplane. Then had a 34 year career with the FAA. Retired in 2001 then became a Part 135 Commercial Pilot in Alaska where I grew up.

How long have you been involved in aviation education?: I became a flight instructor in 1975 and have been an active flight instructor since. I taught at PWS Community College in Alaska until the early 1980s. As a FAASTeam Representative I give live seminars in the Las Vegas area.

What's your favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: I like live public speaking and instruction to pilots and others interested in aviation.

What's your least favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: I suppose it would be if a student failed a checkride, but that has never happened to me!

Do you have a memorable aviation experience you'd like to share?: Everything in aviation is memorable!

Why did you join SAFE?: I am a member of many organizations that support aviation safety and stand up for pilot's rights. How could I not join?

What would you like to see change in aviation?: I would like to see all pilots be safe pilots. The safer you are the safer it is for the rest of us. I would like to see all pilots enroll in the WINGS Program.

Any suggestions on how the above might be accomplished?: WINGS has a proven track record — enroll today.

Who are your role models in aviation?: Every pilot is a role model in some way! I learn something from everyone!

Anything else you'd like to add?: Everyone fly safe and keep supporting aviation in any way you can!
