Q & A

What drew you to aviation?: I was drawn to aviation because I've always interested in flying… probably the same as you :)

How long have you been involved in aviation education?: I have been a CFI for 10 years, and have been flying for 13 years.

What's your favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: My favorite part of instructing is seeing students progress as a product of work together.

What's your least favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: My least favorite part of instructing is that many students don't study enough in between lessons. This makes lessons less effective, and learning to fly takes a lot longer (and costs more). Come to your lessons prepared. Have questions to ask! I love when students are asking questions!

Do you have a memorable aviation experience you'd like to share?: There are so many experiences, and I still learn something each flight! Landing at LAX and SFO come to mind as quite memorable, but nothing compares to the first solo cross country for me. That was when I really felt like a pilot :)

Why did you join SAFE?: I joined SAFE because of the many resources available to Flight Instructors.

What would you like to see change in aviation?: I would like to see many more people involved in aviation.

Any suggestions on how the above might be accomplished?: More people might be involved if:
1. The costs were lower.
2. Typical Training Airplanes had newer appearances.
3. Driver's Licenses used in lieu of third class medicals.

Any accomplishments in, or noteworthy contributions to aviation and/or aviation education you'd like to mention?: I try to keep my Aviation Links web page current and relevant. It started out as the links I struggled to find over time. Check them out: http://www.cfimichael.com/links.html

Who are your role models in aviation?: Bob Hoover and my own instructors, Tom Reynolds and Jonathan Bar-or.

Anything else you'd like to add?: If you are wondering what it would be like to fly, come find out!
