Q & A

What drew you to aviation?: The lure of flying has been a passion from my earliest memory. I drew airplanes, read books, and built models as a kid.

How long have you been involved in aviation education?: Since 1999

What's your favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: Getting people excited of pursuing their dream to fly!

What's your least favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: Students who do not prepare for their lesson.

Do you have a memorable aviation experience you'd like to share?: Landing at Kitty Hawk; The utterly black sky when taking off from KIFP at 2 am; the first time being "inside" a cloud, "alone", very alone…and most memorable…I'm 16 years old lifting a little Cessna 150 off of KPOC's runway all by myself. I remember "yahooing"…

Why did you join SAFE?: SAFE is a group of dedicated aviation professionals and I liked their willingness to build an organization around their beliefs.

What would you like to see change in aviation?: Risk management must be more than words. Risk management is not well understood as has not really matured from an academic exercised to a fundamental process in each aviation transaction for light aircraft general aviation pilots. The trend is encouraging; however, there is a significant amount of work that must be accomplished if we are to reduce the incident/accident rate.

Any suggestions on how the above might be accomplished?: The CFI is the key.

Any accomplishments in, or noteworthy contributions to aviation and/or aviation education you'd like to mention?: I am a proud alumnus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Who are your role models in aviation?: Steve Chaney a Master Aviator in my opinion.
