Q & A

What drew you to aviation?: My father learned to fly as a young man and I rode with him a few times until he quit flying. I was hooked.

How long have you been involved in aviation education?: I've been a CFI since 2008 but I spent several years as a military flight instructor in the Navy.

What's your favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: Seeing men and women realize a dream and watching them grow along the path to their pilot's license or next rating.

What's your least favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: Cancelling a flight for weather.

Do you have a memorable aviation experience you'd like to share?: Too many to recall.

Why did you join SAFE?: I was growing weary of the politics in some of the other professional associations. I felt that SAFE was a solid organization whose advocacy was clear and well placed and I am very interested in improving my skills as an instructor.

What would you like to see change in aviation?: I would like to see easier and more affordable access to aviation and the advancing technology. I think by making it easier to access, more people will see aviation as a viable possibility in their lives.

Any suggestions on how the above might be accomplished?: We have to tell the aviation story and tell it every chance we get. We have to take steps to reduce the cost of flying including steps with legal and insurance challenges.
