Q & A

What drew you to aviation?: A lifelong passion, shared with my dear grandfather, of the freedom to fly and go wherever you want. Being able to express my soul through the impeccable harmony of nature and machine that is flying. It's truly an art.

How long have you been involved in aviation education?: Since June 2014.

What's your favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: Watching and helping pilots grow and fulfill their dreams is incredibly rewarding.

What's your least favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: Pilots and students with no real drive to learn and improve.

Do you have a memorable aviation experience you'd like to share?: Taking my family up in gliders and helicopters have been really memorable, showing them what the passion they support is all about. I once followed a seagull around on a very dull, overcast day in a glider, amassing a total of 45 minutes flight time thanks to the bird's superior sense of where the updrafts were. I'm a huge fan of weather and clouds, so the intimacy with nature and the atmosphere makes every moment in flight special. You can't see air, so you have to project your imagination all around you to figure out what is going on. It's all about that sweet moment when you fuse with the aircraft and become soul on a sunbeam.

Why did you join SAFE?: To draw from and share the vast source of education material available and get inspired by other aviation educators.

What would you like to see change in aviation?: I'd like to see cut-downs and simplification on the administrative side of things, especially in Europe, making it simpler and cheaper for us on the flying side.

Who are your role models in aviation?: Gunnar "the Ghost Pilot" Andersson
