Q & A

What drew you to aviation?: Child hood desire

How long have you been involved in aviation education?: Eight years

What's your favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: Transfer of knowledge

What's your least favorite part of what you do in aviation education?: Seeing folks walk away from aviation (lots of reasons why they leave, some can change, most cannot)

Do you have a memorable aviation experience you'd like to share?: First solos are always a combination of joy, pride and anxiety

Why did you join SAFE?: To be both a better pilot and instructor

What would you like to see change in aviation?: It is my belief that the pay structure for flight instruction is flawed. This is a historic problem that is complicated. However, the concept of our newest, least experienced CFIs, some of which only motive is to build hours, is a limiting factor to industry growth.

Any suggestions on how the above might be accomplished?: Higher education helps to develop more career minded individuals. The industry or market may correct itself with demand. The risk there is that it also drives other solutions like pilot-less flight.

Any accomplishments in, or noteworthy contributions to aviation and/or aviation education you'd like to mention?: 2016 Regional CFI of the Year……
I'm always looking forward to seeing one of my former students in cockpit of a major corporate or commercial aircraft

Who are your role models in aviation?: John Glenn
Charlie Monett

Anything else you'd like to add?: I look forward to giving back some of the wonderful experiences a career in aviation has brought to me.
